Essentialism is not about how to get more things done; it’s about how to get the right things done.

Two Tried & True Homeschool Tips

1. Summer is upon us! Now, is the time to set some intentional plans for the next homeschool year. I challenge you today to dip your toe into the pool of essentialism and make a list of three things you will nix from your homeschool day next year. That’s right—three things that no longer serve you or never did. Take a quiet moment to think about last year. What jumps out at you? The extracurricular activity no one enjoyed? The foreign language that feels like you’re doing it just because? Make your list and don’t look back. We only have time for the best, not the so-so.

2. Speaking of planning for next year, mark a day on your calendar this summer to sort through all the three-quarters-used workbooks, stacks of papers, and pencils with no erasers. Pick a day. Grab a trash bag. Commit. Do it now. Your future self will thank you for a clean, fresh start in the fall.

Three Can’t-Miss Educational Resources

1. Travel the ancient Roman world! Explore ORBIS, an interactive model that “reconstructs the duration and financial cost of travel in antiquity.”

2. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is expanding to California! See if your child is eligible to receive a free book every month.

3. Looking to test-drive digital lesson planning for free? Try Common Curriculum’s Basic plan that gives you:

  • Daily, weekly, and monthly lesson planning
  • Search and add standards to your lessons
  • Post lessons to Google Classroom
  • Print or download individual lessons
  • Re-use lessons from past years
  • Upload files from your computer, Google Drive, Dropbox, or Office 365
